CAJON RUINS |
I visited Hovenweep National Monument in December of 2012 and was very impressed with the quality of the ruins. I got there fairly early in the morning and, with the exception of the ranger at the visitors center, had the entire area to myself. There is a really well-maintained two-mile loop hike beginning and ending at the visitors center that passes by the Square Tower Ruins, which includes several well-preserved structures.
After visiting the Square Tower Ruins I visited the Cajon Ruins, which were not too far away. This is another impressive collection of well-preserved ruins. These are the only two sets of ruins I visited at Hovenweep, but there are several other uints you can visit as well. Additionally the Canyons of the Ancients National Monument is located not too far to the east in Colorado. This would be an area you could spend a lot of time in.
