LOWER MULE CANYON PETROGLYPHS

Lower Mule Canyon contains a cluster of ruins and petroglyphs located just off Highway 95 near Comb Ridge. The trailhead is only approximately 1.5 miles past the Comb Wash Campground, which I had driven by dozens of times prior without realizing there were such well-preserved ruins nearby. The first mile is accessible to low-clearance vehicles, while the last half-mile or so has some deep tire ruts which you may need a medium-clearance vehicle to drive on.

When you arrive at the canyon in which they are located, I would recommend starting on the right side of the canyon, and working your way up, as all the ruins and petroglyphs are located on this side. I started on the left (far) side and it took a while before I was able to see anything. There is supposed to be a trail to the ruins, but it was very faint and hard to follow when I was there in October, 2023. I had the place to myself when I visited, but I would imaging it gets a decent amount of traffic due to its proximity to the campground.
